NOWATA IRONMEN
Coach: CHANCE JUBY
2-8
OFFENSE
Coach Chance Juby would seem to have the Nowata Ironmen moving in the right direction after his first season at the helm. Though they were just 2-8 last year, that’s two more wins than they had the previous two seasons combined. “We have a good core group of veterans and a large incoming freshman class that we are excited about,” said Juby. The offense centers around the play of two guys primarily. One is Peyton Trotter (5-9, 160, Sr.) who Juby describes as a utility player that will see action at wide receiver and running back and is a VYPE Top 100 nominee. “What he lacks in speed and size, he makes up for in crisp route running and toughness,” said Juby. “He has a great work ethic and shows up big in crucial situations.” The other main cog in the offensive machine is returning quarterback Trevor Emberson (5-11, 175, Jr.) who passed for over 1200 yards in his sophomore campaign. “Trevor is a smart football player that works hard and improves every day. He runs our offense and has shown tremendous improvement in the last year so our expectations of him are pretty high going into this season,” said Juby. He’ll have experienced receivers downfield in Bear Savala (5-9, 160, Sr.) who had nearly 300 yards last year and Keyshawn Verner (5-10, 165, Jr.) while the line will be anchored by Jerome Jackson (5-11, 190, Jr.) and Zach Long (6-0, 210, Sr.). The Ironmen will run a run- first spread offense designed to open up the passing lanes.
DEFENSE
While Juby’s spread offense promotes the run, his hybrid 3-4 defense wants to stop the run and force the opposition to throw. The three in that 3-4 will be Long, Jackson and Maliki Ornder (5-5, 215, So.). Trotter will pursue the opponents from the linebacker spot while Verner, Savala and Trotter will be in charge of the secondary. “We expect to play disciplined football and be the most physical team on the field,” said Juby.
