Athletics is part of who Joshua Gesell is. He grew-up watching football on TV. He always knew he wanted to play. Once football season was over he wanted more, so he joined wrestling and track was soon to follow.
This Grove High School senior lives for sports and food. He said with a smile his favorite activity is to eat. His favorite meal is rib-eye and mashed potatoes but he is not picky. Being fed for free is a huge perk of being a GHS athlete.
On a more serious note, Joshua takes pride representing his community. “My favorite part is having the whole ‘Grove’ on your side to win. The sport teaches you that hard work does pay off but when you do it with your team it is just so much better than anything else,” he said. Sports builds brotherhood and that bond pushes each team member to be a better player and person.
Joshua’s first love was football. What he has learned here extents to all parts of his life. “Things go differently than planned. It’s better to move on and fix what you can control,” he says, “you can either sit and dwell on the past or you can move on with life.”
Early experiences in little league football impact Joshua today. His favorite memory was his first sack to win alittle league game. Teammate, Scott Cox, made the biggest personal impact. They played football together in little league and Joshua has seen first hand how much Scott grew as a player.
Joshua says family is his inspiration. “They helped me in every sport and made me a better person. I wanna give thanks to my dad and mom who never gave up on me through the years and showed me that I can strive for more.”
