Jay’s Mikenna Moffett Athlete Spotlight Presented by Grove Dental Associates

Head coach Garrett Evans is building something special at Jay High School. The girls wrestling program continues to grow and the success of last season is catapulting the program into another year of great wrestling.

One wrestler ready to take the mat is last year’s state runner-up, Mikenna Moffett. Moffett said she loves wrestling and loves representing Jay High School.

“What I love most about being a student-athlete at Jay, are the relationships I make with my teammates and coaches, the atmosphere of the community and the support,” said Moffett.

Now a junior, Moffett started wrestling her freshman year. The room features two other state qualifiers in Kenadee Thomas and Angela Lee.

“One thing I love most about my teammates is how we all support each other. This team has always been a good, tough, hardworking team, but this year I definitely think is going to be a good year,” said Moffett.

Moffett’s goal hasn’t changed since she started wrestling. She wants a state championship. Unlike the boys, the girls wrestle a weight class regardless of school classification. Which means Moffett and her teammates will face wrestlers from large schools like Bixby and Union. It’s a challenge the team gladly accepts. Coach Evans said of Moffett, “she’s a state runner-up who is looking to put herself on top of the podium this year. She is a multi-sport athlete who excels in everything she does. She has a strong work ethic and determine mindset to get the job done.” Moffett is a member of the STUCO at JHS and she said her favorite subject is English. Away from the mat and school, Moffett said she enjoys spending time with friends. After she graduates in 2025, Moffett would like to pursue her dream of being a cosmetologist. With her record of success, there is a high probability she will fulfill that dream and be the toughest cosmetologist in Oklahoma.
