Time and work are two things that are required in order for an athlete to become successful in their sports. Afton’s Chloe Church plays softball and basketball for the Eagles and she knows what it takes to be her best.
“I love to play both of my sports,” she said. “But it takes a lot of hard work to continue to grow and get better. I also have had to have the ability to recognize my mistakes so I can correct them.”
Church is a junior at Afton High School. Along with playing her sports, she is also a member of the National Honor Society, Interaction Club, and yearbook.
There have been people that have helped shape Chloe into the person and the athlete that she is today. But she says that there are a couple that have really made a big impression.
“My dad is the biggest role model for me in my life,” she said. “He has always taught me that if I want something I have to work for it and he has always set a good example for that. Another would have to be coach Shinn. He always keeps me on my toes.”
Afton’s head softball coach, Kelcee Henry, says that she is excited to see how Chloe impacts the team this season.
“Chloe took a year off her freshman year,” coach Henry said. “But I am expecting big things from her.”
Throughout her career, Church has made some great memories. But she says that there is one simple moment that is the most special to her.
“Every time I walk out on the field or court is a higlight moment for me,” she said. “I love that I have the ability to compete in the sports that I enjoy playing.”
There are a lot of teams on her team’s schedules, but Chloe has one team that she and her teammates always enjoy playing and getting the win.
“Fairland is our school’s rival so I enjoy beating them the most,” Church stated. “It is always a challenge when we play them.”
