OFFENSE
The Tigers made an early first-round exit in the 2021 Class A playoffs. While that team was young, the things that those players learned are what head coach Logan Cawyer hopes will pay off big this season. “We have quite a few starters back,” he said. “We were a pretty young team last season, so hopefully that experience will benefit us this year and the next couple of years.” Leading the offense at quarterback will be Austin Lake (6-0, 165, So.), who has put in a lot of work this offseason and is ready to get onto the field and show what he can do. Joining him in the backfield will be Corben Cunliffe (5-10, 175, Sr.), who will be playing running back. Another target for Lake will be tight end Jonas Reeves (6-2, 200, Jr.). Cunliffe and Reeves will look to make big plays and help the Tigers have a successful offense. Taking care of things on the offensive line will be Brandon Cochran (6-3, 310, Sr.), Daniel Nino (5-10, 220, Jr.), and Colin O’Brien (6-1, 215, Jr.).
DEFENSE
The Tigers will run a base 4-4 defense but will be able to change it up depending on what they are seeing from the offense. Working up front to be a disruption to the opponents will be defensive end Cale Epperson (6-3, 205, Jr.). There are three guys returning to play linebacker, Shane Staley (6-2, 210, Sr.) and Conner O’Brien (5-11, 200, Jr.) will both be at the middle linebacker, while Keylen White (5-11, 165, Fr.) will be playing outside linebacker. Cornerback Joey Olsen (5-11, 165, Jr.) and free safety Gracen Shelton (5-10, 160, So.) will be patrolling the secondary and working to shut down any deep threats and the opponent’s passing game. Assistant coaches for the Tigers this season will be Chris Cawyer, Matt Poteet, Craig Hood, and Andrew Medlin.
