Commerce High School junior Macy Hailey is passionate about cheerleading. Macy is very dedicated as a cheerleader, and cheers for two sports: football and basketball. Macy has been a cheerleader for five years.

Cheerleading has many enjoyable aspects. What Macy likes the most involves her cheer routine. Macy explained, “There are many different things that I enjoy about cheerleading. Some of my favorites are getting the crowd excited, stunting, and bonding with my teammates.”

Many memories are created during cheerleading. Macy recalls one that stood out the most. Macy elaborated, “I have a lot of good memories about cheer. One of my favorite memories is working hard with my sister during tryouts. We have tried out together every year. “

When it comes to whom Macy looks to the most for inspiration, she looks to family. Macy stated, “The people who have inspired me the most are my mom, and my cousin, Randi. My mom has always pushed me to be my best, and she inspires me to work for what I want. My cousin Randi taught me everything I know about cheer. She helped shape me into the cheerleader I am today.”

In terms of an athlete that Macy respects, she looks to a former University of Oklahoma football player. Macy stated, “Baker Mayfield is my favorite professional athlete. I admire him for having a heart for what he does. He shows this through leadership not only on the field but off it too.”

In regards to academics, one subject has piqued Macy’s interest the most. Macy elaborated, “My favorite academic subject is psychology. I find it very interesting, an would like to dive deeper into the study.”

Macy has big plans after graduating from Commerce High School. Macy stated, “After high school, I plan on attending Pittsburg State University to get my bachelor’s degree in elementary education and my master’s degree in reading. I have always enjoyed working with children, so I would love to become a reading specialist for an elementary school.”

Besides cheerleading there are other arenas in which Macy participates. Macy stated, “Along with cheerleading, I enjoy going to church, spending time with family, and playing my guitar.
