Grove Ridgerunners Basketball Preview – Presented by Grove Dental Associates

 BOYS
Coach: Zach Trimble
20-21 Record: 9-6

The Ridgerunners enter this season with a great make up. Head coach Zach Trimble says that the team will lean on their returners and will look to help the team mesh and grow.

“We have our top two leading scorers back from last year and we are expecting big things from them,” Trimble said. “Roles will need to be defined with everyone. Have a good mix of youth and guys with experience that will be exciting to watch grow together.” One of those leading scorers coming back is Corbin Beal (6-4, Sr.). He averaged twelve points per game last season and is also an outstanding rebounder. Beal is joined by Hagen Hacker (6-1, Jr.) who came on strong in the second half of last season. He is expected to have a big season. Ian Pace (6-3, Sr.) brings energy to the floor, and he is expected to take on a bigger role for the team this season. Brayden Casey (5-10, Jr.) came off the bench last season as a defensive stopper and he will be called upon to play that role this season. He has also improved his offense which will be a benefit for the team. Two other players that should be impactful players this season will be Willy Lopez (5-8, Sr.) and Jackson Gain (6-3, Fr.). Lopez is a great kid and a hard worker, while Gain was a bigtime player for the team this summer and looks for that to transfer to this season. Other Ridgerunners to keep an eye on are Derek Loomis (6-2, Sr.), Chandler Gonzalez (6-3, So.), Jacob Gain (6-2, Fr.), and Miles Alexander (6-2, Fr.).

GIRLS
Coach: Richard Bassett
20-21 Record: 11-5

The Lady Ridgerunners advanced to the Class 4A State Tournament last season. If they want to make it back this season, head coach Richard Bassett says that it will be a team effort. “We are a very hardworking team that will also play tough defense,” Bassett said. “We will not have just one or two that will be the main scorers, but it will be a team effort each and every night.” Anna Bacon (5-9, Sr.) will be playing the forward position. She is a selfless player that does whatever it takes to win. Also back is Baylee Gregg (5-7, Sr.), who is a great kid and an even better basketball player. She is always willing to play whatever position the team needs her to. Joining Bacon and Gregg will be Emily Blaine (5-7, Sr.). She has the ability to make the team better because she is a hard worker. Sophomore Elliot Geer (5-7) is a hard-nosed and defensive minded point guard that always makes sure she is not outworked. There are other players that will work to make an impact on the season for the Lady Ridgerunners. They are Megan Gibbs (5-10, Sr.), Sage Jackson (5-7, Jr.), Ansleigh Morris (5-8, Jr.), and Jacee Pair (5-9, Jr.). Sophomore Brynlea Collins (5-7, So.) has a torn ACL but will be cheering her team on from the bench.
