Q&A with Afton’s Delani Johnson – Presented By Steel City Metals

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Delani: I’ve always loved Mrs. Paslay because she always made sure you felt welcomed and loved.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Delani: My mom’s cooking for sure. I love so many of her foods and she makes the best meatballs.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Delani: Probably just to work hard. I’ve gotten a lot of good advice from people, so I would say to work hard and make sure you keep focus on what is important; God, family, and then sports.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?

Delani: Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Interact, and I am the student council vice-president and secretary of the National Honor Society. I also rodeo outside of school.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Delani: I’ve loved sports ever since I was able to go pick up a ball and play with it. I just love the game so much, the friendships you make through it, and the fun you have playing a game.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Delani: My family is my biggest supporters, and I admire them and look to them for advice and support. They are always there for me.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Delani: I think Paige Buckers is a good one because even when she got hurt, she found ways to involve herself to stay in the game and keep working to get better.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Delani: All my teammates have been so supportive. I don’t know if I could pick just one.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Delani: My family. Also my coaches: Coach K, Coach Shinn, Coach Graves, and Coach Bowen.
