OFFENSE

The Wildcats bring a new level of excitement into the 2022 season. Third-year head coach Aaron Compton says the experience they have coming back will play a big role in their success. “We are coming into this season with big expectations,” he said. “We will be returning almost everyone on both sides of the ball and we are doing our best to bring a tough and physical style of play with us.” Quarterback Nick Lunsford (5-10, 170, Jr.) passed for 600 yards and rushed for 300 yards last season. He also scored six touchdowns. He will work to lead the offense to success this season. Joining Lunsford in the backfield will be running backs Toby Burkholder (6-0, 180, Sr.) and Gavin Graham (5-8, 165, So.). Burkholder totaled 300 yards rushing and 150 yards receiving with six touchdowns last year. And Graham brings a toughness to the running game with his blocking ability. The offensive line will also play a big role in the team’s success. Conner Whitson (5-8, 285, Sr.) and Daniel Burkholder (5-8, 180, Jr.) will both play at the guard position, while Matthew Soldier (5-9, 185, Jr.) will be at tackle.

DEFENSE

The Wildcats defense will work to be fast and physical while getting as many guys to the ball as possible on every play. Brady Nicholas (6-3, 255, Jr.) will play at defensive end. He brings a lot of size to the line and has worked on becoming more physical to become a bigger force. Linebackers Jaxsen Craine (5-8, 155, Jr.), Kaleb Ramsey (5-8, 160, Jr.), and T. Burkholder combined for 158 tackles, nineteen tackles for loss, three sacks, and an interception last year and will look to continue that production this year. Reed Asche (6-0, 155, Sr.) and Lunsford will be in the secondary and trying to limit the big plays of the opponent. Last year, Lunsford totaled sixty-two tackles, eleven pass breakups, and two interceptions, while Asche only played in one game last year but will bring toughness and speed to the cornerback position. Assistant coaches this season for the Wildcats will be Travis Brannon, Jeff Brown, Austin Goodman, and Kyle Taylor.
