Grove’s Kabe Huggins – Northeast Tech Student Spotlight

Northeast Tech offers high school students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a field they feel they might like to pursue as a career in when they are out of high school. Kabe Huggins attends the Afton campus and had a change of heart partway through the program.

“I first visited Northeast Tech during their sophomore showcase,” he said. “My dad wanted me to go through the electrical program. I enjoyed talking to the instructor during the tour and then spent the next year completing the residential electrician training. But during my senior year, I did something unusual, and that was switch programs. I had finished all of the curriculum for my commercial electrical class and decided it was best that I switch to the STEM program. It has been beneficial for me because I am learning more and will have more to add to my resume.”

Kabe has no doubt that the classes he is taking at Northeast Tech are getting him ready for life in the real world and he urges anyone that is remotely considering attending Northeast Tech to give it a try.

“For anyone that is on the edge about joining Tech, they should simply just do it,” he said. “Northeast Tech has done a great job of preparing me for the next steps in my educational career by providing me with the tools I need to be successful. While attending I have learned valuable skills that will prove to be useful at Oklahoma State University where I will continue to further my education in the engineering field.”

Huggins is a senior at Grove High School where he serves as senior class president. He is also serving as the National Technology Honor Society President for the Afton campus. He has earned Eagle Scout honors as a member of the Boys Scouts of America, and he has logged over 340 hours of community service.
