Prior to becoming a member in the local FFA chapter at Pryor High School, Ashlynn Vargas was a member of the 4-H Club. It wasn’t until the eighth grade when Vargas decided the FFA was the right direction for her.
“I got involved in FFA in 2019, when I was in the eighth grade,” said Vargas. “My sister encouraged me to join because she would always go to meetings, camps, and competitions and listening to her made it sound fun.”
Vargas didn’t simply join the chapter, she decided to become an officer.
“I really enjoy being an officer and getting to represent my chapter,” said Vargas. “I am currently the chapter treasurer. I attend our chapter meetings regularly. I’m involved in the canned food drive, putting flags out to honor our veterans, meat sales, cattle grading, and I represented my chapter at the state convention.”
Vargas also spends a lot of time tending her animals.
“I show cattle. I have had the opportunity to show at local, state, and national cattle shows,” said Vargas.
Also a member of National Honor Society and Tiger Video, Vargas splits her time between FFA, her other activities and playing sports as a member of the varsity soccer and basketball teams.
The sophomore said she has met and made some great friends through FFA and athletics.
“I have met and became good friends with a lot of people through being involved in FFA. I would like to encourage everyone to consider being involved. I have some of my best times with my chapter and at cattle shows,” said Vargas. “I´ve had a lot of people that have influenced me. Coach Emerine who always gives me words of wisdom, my Ag teachers who support me, my show family that has taught me a lot, my sister who holds me accountable and my parents for pushing me to work hard.”
