Fairland’s Keziah Jacobs – athlete spotlight presented by Grand Savings Bank

By Derrick Smith

John F. Kennedy once said, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

Keziah Jacobs is a sophomore at Fairland High School and her leadership skills are what makes her a standout athlete. Keziah is a strong player on the basketball court and is a middle-distance runner for the track team. She competes in the one and two-mile relays. Keziah is predicted to be an up-and-coming athlete for the Lady Owls.

Outside of sports, she is an active member of Future Farmers of America and is involved with FCCLA. Both are great organizations for students to prepare for personal growth and career success. Keziah is also a student in The Gifted and Talented Education Plan (GATE) of Oklahoma City Public Schools which is designed to create experiences that will encourage students to develop new skills to utilize in the classroom.

Deb Brixey is the track coach at Fairland and one of Keziah’s biggest role models.

“[Brixey] works hard at everything she does, she always has our back, and is someone I can look up to.”

Likewise, Coach Brixey comments that Keziah is no stranger to hard work and that she is “a real asset to the track and field program.”

Although trying to pick one favorite teacher was hard for the sophomore, she has always loved having math class with Mrs. Klines and mentions that Klines has always been super sweet.

Keziah has plans to attend college at Ottawa University after graduation. She is not particularly interested in playing sports at the collegiate level, but only time will tell for the sophomore.
