Tate Lewis is a junior at Dewey High School, where he competes on the Bulldoggers football and baseball teams. Lewis started at quarterback this past season, leading the Class 2A Bulldoggers with 1,613 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. In his first-career start, Lewis led Dewey to a 52-42 season-opening victory against Class 4A Miami where he had a career-high of 270 passing yards. An injury cut his season short as Lewis played in seven of 10 games in 2020. Lewis has played football since he was 8 years old but has played his favorite sport of baseball since he was five. 

On the Bulldoggers baseball squad, Lewis is one of the team’s ace pitchers and also plays second base. This season, Lewis leads the team in strikeouts with 27 and also leads the team at the plate with a .489 batting average.

The Bulldoggers have been on a roll to end the season, winning three-straight games and scoring double-digit runs in five of their last six games. Lewis recorded three singles and drove in two runs in a recent win against Blackwell.

Upon graduation, Lewis wants to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level. Wherever he attends, Lewis intends to stick around the sport of baseball by studying to become a coach or physical therapist.

Lewis credits his best friend, Corbin, as pushing him to being successful in and out of athletics. Corbin is a senior at Dewey and joins Lewis on the football team as the starting running back and on the baseball team as the other ace pitcher for the Bulldoggers.

“We’re always hanging out, and he’s always pushing me to be a better player on the field and helping me be my best version off of the field,” Lewis said.
