Beth Dorsey is not originally from Bartlesville, or even Oklahoma, but she now resides in Bartlesville where her three student-athletes attend school. Tayton is a junior at BHS and plays football, Mason is in the sixth grade at Madison and plays football, basketball, and Bombers baseball, and Bryson is in the third grade at Hoover and plays football, soccer, and wrestles for the Bartlesville Wrestling Club.
To say Beth is busy is simply an understatement.
“I am a volunteer at BHS in the PSG (Parent Support Group), Madison Middle School in the PSA (Parent Support Association) and Hoover Elementary in the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). I’m also a member of the Bruins QB Club. During the football season, I volunteer to serve meals to the junior varsity and varsity football teams on game days, serve pizza to the varsity team after football games, help clean the uniforms and I help with YMCA football during the season as “team Mom,” said Beth.
Despite the non-stop work it takes to be a volunteer, Beth said she enjoys the work and being there for the kids.
“I enjoy serving my community. It has always been a very fulfilling part of my life and I hope I’m showing my sons that giving your time and not expecting a pat on the back for it will not only fill your bucket but will fill others as well,” Beth said.
Beth said she feels it’s important for parents to be part of their kids’ activities.
“I believe it’s important because you get to know who your kids are around on a daily basis.
Whether it be fellow teammates or coaches, you build a relationship on and off the field and they become family.”
Bartlesville has been a great place for the Dorsey family, but Beth admits she was a little nervous when they first arrived.
“We came to Bartlesville nine years ago from the very small town of Holdenville, Oklahoma and I was scared that my boys wouldn’t be able to thrive in such a large school system but moving here has been the best decision we made for their futures. They are involved in so many sports and clubs. They each found their places and I can’t wait to see them grow up in BPS. The opportunities are endless, and the administration, teachers and staff continue to support each student with their endeavors,” Beth said.
The former Pea Ridge High School graduate said no one volunteers alone and at Bartlesville it takes a small Army of parents to help the coaches and players. One person Beth works with is Laura Huff.
“We both have juniors and she’s been an amazing fellow mom to do all things Bruin,” said Beth.
When the Dorsey family has some free time, they try to make the most of it by spending time together and being outdoors.
“We don’t have a lot of free time outside of games and practices, but when we do, we spend it at our small farm with our cows and donkey while helping to take care of them and do farm chores.
