Football and baseball may be very different sports but one thing they have in common is the need to work together as a team to find success. Fairland High School senior, Samuel Lollar, has found success on the field in both sports. This is in part because he is a natural athlete but also because he knows the value of teamwork.
Samuel’s passion for competitive sports makes him work harder. “To win, everyone has to come together and work as a team,” he says.
Fairland football coach, Doug Winters says Samuel is multi-sport player who is an asset to his football program. Coach Winers is also very impressed watching Samuel play baseball where he says Samuel is an amazing player. Baseball may be Samuel’s top sport but he credits Coach Winters for teaching him to always do his best.
Samuel has many good memories playing sports but one stands out. He will never forget winning districts in baseball after playing three games in a row. Representing FHS is about the whole school, not just the team he says, “I feel like if we win the whole school wins.”
The pro player he looks up to is Jonah Bride with the Oakland A’s. “He has taught me how to work and be better,” said Samuel.
He most admires his dad. “Dad taught me a good work ethic, to never give up and to chase my dreams. I want to say thank you to my parents and my siblings for always having my back and pushing me, and all the coaches I have played for. Thank you.”
Through sports, Samuel has built friendships with fellow teammates that go beyond the game. If he could take a vacation anywhere it would be a hunting trip to Alaska with his best friends where he could eat his favorite meal, steak.
