Q&A with Fairland’s Haleigh McKinzie – Presented By Grand Savings Bank

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Haleigh: My cheer coach, Maddie. She is the most dedicated person I know when it comes to cheering and she always strives to make me and my teammates better cheerleaders.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Haleigh: I remember being super little at my brother’s football games wanting to be the “pretty girls in the outfits” and ever since I saw the “pretty girls in the outfits” I’ve been a cheerleader.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Haleigh: Mia Jacobs has left the biggest impression on me because she was my co-captain as a sophomore and has gone above and beyond. She is phenomenal at being a leader.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Haleigh: My sport has taught me that there really is no I in team. Each of us is important and needed.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Haleigh: The girls are my best friends and we are always lifting each other up and wanting the best for one another.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Haleigh: Probably Gabi Butler because she’s also loved it ever since she was a kid.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Haleigh: Mrs. Heilig from first grade because she was always so kind and helpful and she had a class turtle.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Haleigh: For a summer vacation anywhere, I’d probably go to Greece just cause it sounds cool and I’d take my nana because she’s my best friend.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Haleigh: I want to say thank you to Maddie because I wouldn’t be the cheerleader I am today without her and I also want to give a shout-out to my parents because they are my biggest fans and have always supported me no matter if it was sidelines or all-stars. I’m very thankful for them and all the time and money spent on me and at games or competitions.
