Entering her sophomore year at Vinita High School, McKayla Messick is excited to be back in school and she is ready for another year of FFA. Messick first got started in FFA while in the eighth grade and it was a family member who encouraged her to join.
“My brother was in FFA for five years and enjoyed it, so he encouraged me to join,” said Messick.
Being a member of the chapter at Vinita High School has been fun for Messick. The activities and friends she has made is one reason she plans to stay in FFA for her entire high school career.
“The thing I enjoy the most about being in FFA is being able to meet so many new people. This organization and the people involved are so welcoming and supportive,” said Messick.
Participating in numerous activities only increases the enjoyment for Messick. She is currently involved in judging livestock.
“I am involved in commercial cattle grading and livestock judging,” said Messick.
Also an outfielder for the fastpitch softball team, Messick is looking forward to getting back on the field with her teammates this summer and fall.
“I play fastpitch softball, I am a mat-maid for Vinita Wrestling, and I am a trainer for Vinita High School baseball team,” said Messick.
Messick said her family plays a huge role in her life and she would not be where she is without them.
“My biggest influence in my life has been my family. They always push me to do the best I can in anything I am doing, as well as support me in all of my activities,” said Messick.
The sophomore offers this advice to anyone looking for an activity that offers a lot of possibilities.
“If you are looking to join FFA, I say do it! FFA is such a great opportunity to learn leadership skills as well as to make new friends and learn new skills,” said Messick.
