Claremore Sequoyah Football Preview: Defense – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

Head coach – ROB GILBREATH

2021: 7-4

Seven starters return on defense to the Eagles 4-4 base defense that wants to play wide and stop their opponent’s rushing attack. Up front, nose guard Ethan Germany (5-10, 205, So.), defensive end Levi Gastelum (6-3, 230, So.), and defensive end Jaggar Dunfee, (6-3, 210, Jr.) are young but have good size, toughness, and determination. Brody Nichols (5-11, 185, Sr.) had 120 tackles at linebacker and Josh Marmon (6-0, 190, Sr.) had 85 tackles of his own. Free safety Caleb Harwell (6-0, 180, Sr.) roams the secondary and will look to force turnovers and stop big plays over the top. Coaches describe Harwell as a team leader. Last season he suffered a knee injury in the second game of the season but attended every practice and was like an assistant coach on the sidelines during games. He should make a big impact on defense for the Eagles in 2022 and looks forward to a healthy senior campaign.
