Pryor’s Nate Silkey – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Rhett Minson State Farm

Throughout the span of an athlete’s career, there are countless moments that they experience alongside their teammates. These moments could be just something that happened in practice, or it could be a huge team victory in a game. Nate Silkey says that the moment that stands out the most for him is a big team accomplishment last year.

“The highlight moment of my career is an easy selection,” he said. “It would have to be when we won the baseball regional championship last season and advanced to the state tournament. It was a great feeling to make it back to the big tournament.”

Nate is a senior at Pryor High School. Along with baseball, he also plays football for the Tigers. He knows what it takes to be successful, and he also knows what keeps him working hard to get better.

“I have put in a lot of time and effort in order to get where I am,” he said. “I hate losing, so that is probably the thing that motivates me the most. Losing puts a bad taste in your mouth. I work as hard as I can so I can deal with that as little as possible.”

Between his two sports, Nate has faced a number of different teams over his career. But having to pick the team he enjoys beating was an easy choice.

“No doubt it would have to be Claremore,” he said. “They are our rivals so anytime we can notch up another victory against them is a great day.”

When he is not practicing or playing one of his sports, Silkey has two hobbies that you will most likely find him doing.

“My two favorite hobbies are hunting and fishing,” he said. “One of my favorite people to follow on social media is Bobby Guy. He waterfowl hunts and he also films some pretty cool stuff.”
